# Cottage Inn Pizza

Cottage Inn Pizza’s site leans on two outside platforms: Punchh for its rewards program and Yext for its location pages. I rebuilt the Punchh rewards integration from the ground up in late 2023, built the new theme (the first phase of the new site) from the client’s designs and launched it in February 2026, and have looked after the location pages and the site’s upkeep since 2022.

2025–2026

## The new theme

- **Summer 2025.** I built the new theme from the client’s designs, the first phase of the new site, starting on staging: I cleaned up the old build, built the new global header and footer, and built the redesigned home page with a card grid, an interactive ingredients graphic with pointer arrows, and a rewards banner, with responsive styles from about 390 to 1920 pixels wide. Then came the revision rounds: grid spacing, arrow positions at in-between widths, footer links, and the footer navigation on small screens.
- **The Rewards landing page.** I built the first version on staging from the design comp: a hero with Join Now and Sign In, a 3 Easy Steps section, the app download, points and an FAQ callout, and fixed where Safari and Chrome scaled its SVG text and images differently.
- **Before launch.** Deals in the header, Locations in the footer, a fixed mobile header with taller Order and Sign In buttons, deal cards resized for phones, and on the gift card page the amount selector moved beneath the heading and a footer call to action added. On the menu cards I renamed a confusing Link field to Item ID with help text, and fixed the Carryout option so menu item IDs reach the online ordering address.
- **Launch, February 2026.** Synced the location data from production to staging, took backups, then launched the new theme and checked it.

Punchh

## Rewards

The rewards sign-in, sign-up and account pages run on a custom plugin that connects the site to **Punchh**, the loyalty platform. A developer at the agency built the first version years ago. In late 2023 I pulled it apart and rebuilt it from the ground up, and I have maintained and extended it since.

- **Favorite store ordering, early 2024.** Logged-in rewards members go straight to their favorite store’s online ordering. The feature reads the member’s favorite location from Punchh through the loyalty plugin and rewrites the Order links in the header, the hero and footer calls to action and the menu item buttons, with a shortcode for order buttons inside page content. Logged out, or with no favorite set, the links stay as they were.
- **Analytics, 2023.** The rewards sign-up and login forms are custom, so Gravity Forms tracking could not see them. I changed both forms to send a form submission event, each with its own ID, and confirmed them firing on production.
- **Keeping it working, 2022 to 2025.** Fixed the plugin’s PHP errors, updated its Punchh connection and retested the account flows, aligned the content under the Punchh-hosted sign-up form, and fixed how the account page finds a member’s favorite location.

Yext and Find a Location

## Locations

- **The Yext location pages.** They share the site’s header, footer and stylesheet. I fixed their header’s hamburger menu, kept the header, footer and styles in step with the site, and moved the locations plugin’s compiled CSS to a persistent path that deployments leave in place. For the new theme I restyled them to the new design, with new header, navigation and footer markup and a cleanup of the scripts and styles they load.
- **A new Find a Location script, December 2025.** I rewrote it and shipped it to production. The rewrite was scoped to drop jQuery, wait for the location data before searching, skip map calls on phones (which have no map), use a small Haversine distance function, reset results from the original elements instead of rebuilding HTML, and use event delegation.
- **Smaller fixes.** Six nearest stores instead of three, store names with an ampersand shown properly everywhere, and the last revision of a teammate’s on-request map.
- **Deal links, March 2026.** Moved the table that pairs each deal with its online ordering link out of the code and into admin settings, so staff can add or change deal links themselves, and wrote documentation for it.

Upkeep

## Keeping it running

- Monthly maintenance through 2025: backups, core and plugin updates, image optimization, security scans, and a monthly audit with Screaming Frog, GTmetrix and PageSpeed, form notification tests and analytics and Search Console checks.
- An upgrade to PHP 8.3, following a staging-first plan with form tests and error log checks before production.
- With a teammate, looked into server response time: I added logging for page cache clears and compared cached and uncached requests.
- The franchise site moved onto the same hosting as the main site, contact form events fixed for GA4 conversion tracking, and two PageSpeed findings on link names and crawlable links fixed and confirmed.
